Victory: YTL LLP Obtains Landmark HK$890 Million Judgment in High-Stakes Commercial Dispute

Alfred leung best lawyer in Hong Kong

At YTL LLP, we measure our success by the results we deliver for our clients. We are pleased to announce a decisive victory in the High Court, securing a judgment of over HK$890 million, plus substantial interest, for our clients.

In Majestic Plan International Ltd & Others v Ji Changqun [2025] HKCFI 5875, we pursued claims against a defendant of significant means and stature—an individual previously listed among the world’s billionaires and the chairman and CEO of a Hong Kong listed company. The dispute centered on the enforceability of a critical memorandum of understanding.

The defendant mounted multiple lines of defence alleging misrepresentation and lack of consideration. Our team’s strategy was built on meticulous evidence preparation and compelling legal argument. The Court, after rigorous examination, rejected the defendant’s assertions and upheld the agreement as legally binding, entering judgment in our clients’ favour. This outcome underscores a fundamental principle: well-drafted agreements, when properly presented and defended, will be enforced by the Courts.

This judgment culminates a complex, six-year litigation journey. Such disputes demand not only legal expertise but resilience, strategic depth, and a firm-wide commitment to see a case through to its rightful conclusion.

We are proud of the team led by Partner, James Yeung, whose strategic direction was instrumental, and supported by Of Counsel, Janice Yik and Senior Associate, Peter Hon. Their outstanding work exemplifies our firm’s dedication to achieving exceptional outcomes in the most challenging commercial disputes.

Why This Matters for Your Business:

We partner with our clients to navigate high-stakes, high-value conflicts, deploying focused strategies against even the most formidable opponents.
